in basic training and when doing your roles what are the rules around phones can you keep them at night?

You can bring your phone and any other personal items you may want during training, but they'll need to fit inside your personal locker, so there wouldn't be room for a TV, for example. You won't normally be able to use your phone during the working day (not there would be time) but during down time most people will call friends and family.
Once you're out of training you can have a phone on you in most working areas. You're expected to not to walk around outside on your phone (because it doesn't look professional), but other than that most of us use our phones regularly.
