Hi there,
It's quite common for family and friends to have concern, but my advice would be to take them down to a local careers centre or a military event. This would allow them to talk to serving soldiers and gain a better insight of what actual army life is like. They can also pose any questions they may have about the army.
As for joining the Special Forces, you cannot join directly as a regular soldier (only as a reservist, see https://apply.army.mod.uk/roles/infantry/sas-reserve). Therefore, you would need to join another role, such as infantry and then you can look into applying for SF roles once you're in. There's an arduous selection process and you would need to ensure you're fit enough to pass.
Hope that helps, and good luck with the process.
