In short, of course you can. There are varying levels of command and leadership within an infantry platoon.
If you join as an officer, you will begin your career (after completing training) in command of a platoon of around 20-30 soldiers and non commissioned officers. This will come with the support of senior soldiers within the platoon too so you wont have to face this job on your own entirely.
As well as this, when joining as a soldier, you will rise up through the ranks and be given opportunities for responsibility and more as you progress through your career. This can also lead you to commissioning as an officer after a successful career as a soldier.
