if you have a rank in the army, when switching trades or regiments will you keep said rank?

So this is pretty situation dependant. Transfer is not a right and is something you apply for. It is dependant on a number of factors such as if there is space in the role you wish to go into and whether you meet any selection criteria set by the new regiment.
As for keeping your rank, again, that is situation dependant. There might be a space at your rank, but there might only be space at a lower rank and you would have to choose what is more important, the transfer or the rank. Alternatively you might need to complete a trade course to keep your rank etc. It is hard to say what the conditions would be but these would be explained as you applied for the transfer.
