Hi there,
This answer will of course come from an Officer perspective but I hope it serves to address your concerns. Respect and most importantly trust are two things that are earned and built upon through working with people. Soldiers will respect your rank as an officer but this does not automatically mean they will trust you or your professionalism until you have shown to them these attributes. There is no automatic negative for being an officer to your soldiers, we are leaders and have the responsibility for our part in the plan and they are the specialists who bring with them great experience to assist you to achieve the goals as a team.
