Thanks for your question.

As a guardsman, you are dual roles.

You will conduct ceremonial as well as operations, overseas exercises, plenty of sport, adventurous training and career courses.

For example, the Welsh guards are conducting the queens birthday parade in June this year, it’s undecided what parade will be conducted yet though! They are also preparing in the background for overseas exercises to Kenya, just returned from the jungle and will be deploying to Iraq in spring of next year.

I’m thinking the grenadiers and whilst I love and respect all our brave men who fight oversees I canny see my self facing the frontlines.

Hi Chad,
The primary function of the British Army is to protect the United Kingdom’s interests at home and abroad, providing a safe and secure environment in which all British citizens can live and prosper. This sometimes requires us to deploy overseas and there are very few roles within the Army which do not require deployment. If you are a deep specialist in IT or cyber then there may be UK based roles which do not require deployment open to you.

If you feel that deployments may not be for you, then perhaps consider a role in the Reserves where you can control if and when you deploy.
You may find after all that is it not that daunting, and if so you could then transfer into the Regular Army.
