If I’m a single dad, how can I get my kids to visit me or stay with me?

This entirely depends on what stage of the process you are in.
Once you get to your first unit you maybe entitled to service family accommodation (SFA). So you could rent a heavily subsidized house. Example being, i live in a 3 bed house and only pay £260 a month! Or most locations tend to have a welfare house you could rent at weekends/holidays very cheaply to accommodate your children on visitation if you live on camp in the single living accommodation.
