Good evening,
Being a married Soldier myself i can confirm this is the case. Once you get to your chosen/assigned unit, you will be able to bid for a house immediately. This can take a number of weeks to come to fruition but it's well worth the wait.
When i was a Junior Soldier i was paying around £150 a month for a 3 bed house. The cost for said house goes up in rank, albeit not as much as you'd expect. I'm now a senior rank and expected to pay more, factor in the cost of living increase. I'm now pay £270 a month, bargain eh!
