The role of a sniper isn't one you can sign up to as soon as you join the Army.
You have to learn the trade of being a soldier first and then once you have proved yourself, you will be given the choice to attend one of the Sniper courses that is ran throughout the year.
If you are successful, then you join the Sniper platoon and go on to attend the Sniper school where you will have the chance to be "badged" as a sniper if you complete the course.
Most Infantry Regiments have a sniper platoon so don't worry about applying for a specific Regiment, join one that looks good to for you.
