Hello,
To clarify, our roles are split into seven main categories, Combat is one of them, and Engineering is another. Sometimes the roles can overlap slightly with other categories.
There are lots of roles within the Royal Engineers (Explore a Career in the Royal Engineers| Army Jobs) including Armoured Engineer (Become an Armoured Engineer with Royal Engineers | Army Jobs), but Engineering isn't exclusive to the Royal Engineers. You may also be interested in the REME (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) Corps).
As you're probably aware, the British Army isn't all about our war-fighting capability: we have a wide range of non-combat roles including humanitarian assistance, peacekeeping missions, and training, to name a few. Armoured Engineers probably wouldn't be the first in line for combat tasks, but it is worth noting that every soldier and officer in the Army is trained (as a minimum) in dismounted close combat and is expected to work in a combat environment if required.
