Mybackground and qualifications are in Administration and Data. BSc Business Administration (Accounting) MSc Applied Data Science with Distinction I'm told that I cannot join the AGC's SPS unit as a commonwealth applicant and have to consider other roles.
Hi Victor,
Thanks for raising your question.
It isn’t that you cannot join the AGC(SPS) as a commonwealth soldier, it is just that at the moment, the quota set by the British Government has been filled.
There are currently only spaces for new applicants within the Royal Army Corps of Music as musicians. If you have already started your application then a few more options may be open to you (as you have described).
If you wish to join in one of the roles offered to you then you should continue with your application. If you have decided that the AGC(SPS) is the right corps for you, then I would recommend waiting until the next commonwealth recruitment window opens next year.
Please ensure you also considered Officer entry? Take a look at Army Recruitment website and see if you meet the criteria: https://jobs.army.mod.uk/regular-army/entry-options/officer/?gclid=CjwKCAjwnqK1BhBvEiwAi7o0X_ffRkz3G6mOcnO0eYBDP-vlFc0MgNBixJqHVgLiAhXCL7Md-OdeVRoCMnYQAvD_BwE&;cid=semp8302540960&dtid=semp_google_18631584902_148121716248&ps_kw=become%20an%20officer%20in%20army&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&ef_id=ZqiPXgAAAKr%40AFkT%3A20240730070410%3As
I hope this helps, but if you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
Katie
I have had a look at the officer entry and the age requirement is a barrier to most of the positions I'm interested in. I hope to join as a soldier and then apply as an officer upon gaining some experience. Since there is no more space in the AGC, which role would you advise in terms of similarity to SPS because I would like to transfer cap bages later in my career when applying to become an officer in the AGC.
I am in dilemma as to which role to go for amongst the 2 options of Technical Support Specialist of REME and Logistics Specialist of RE. I want something that would keep my skills sharp and would benefited during the later shift or change of cap badge during officer transition. Also, when in a soldiers career can he/she transition to an officer and is the process same as direct entry?
Hi there Victor
The process of soldier entry is dependant on recommendations from your chain of command in your annual appraisals. Following this you would still need to go to Army Officer Selection Board like a Direct Entry Officer to be assessed for your suitability. You then go to Sandhurst and begging your training once more. However your prior experience would make this less of a culture shock. When at Sandhurst you chose your regiment that you wish to apply for and go through a selection process to join. If you are successful then great, if you are not then you must chose another regiment.
I hope this helps
