Hello,
There are lots of perks with a career in the army. With opportunities to get paid to gain qualifications in a job role of your choosing, with defined career path and stability. Travelling abroad, cheaper food and lodgings, free access to gym and sports facilities. Opportunities to gain qualifications doing adventure training activities like scuba diving, skiing, mountain leaders, mountain biking and more. It would be a good idea to talk to your relative about some of the things they have done in there time in the army.
