I'm currently serving in the Regular Army (Infantry) as a private. How and when could I apply for the SAS Reserves?

    Hi there,

Officers and other ranks in their last 24 months of service can apply for Reserve Selection with the permission of their Chain of Command. The detail of this are enclosed within a DIN dated 26th October 23 which you will be able to access on MODNet.

Hi, so does this mean only after my 12 years of service? If so what alternative would I have? Thank you for your help.

This means that when you are 24 months from leaving, not to do with length of service- if you apply for early termination this would set you usually at 12 months from leaving at that point. If you have left the army completely, you must join a reserve unit before they can apply for Reserve Selection. The DIN will give you all the detail you need, I am just unable to post this here.

Roger, so if I understood correctly, 2 years before renewing my contract (in my case next year, since I'v only compleete 1 year) I will have to flag this up to my chain of command? Thank you again for your help Josh, much appreciated!

Your end of engagement dated (EED) on JPA will be the biggest steer here. That date minus two years, unless you are leaving early.

    No worries!
