I'm 27 and married. I don't want to commit to too much time away from my wife. Could the reserves be a good fit?

Anonymous asked a question to Shaun M.

Hey Shaun, I've wanted to join the army since I was 5 but when I was of age to enlist my MH got in the way. I overcame it but in that time met my wife and now don't want to commit to too much time away from her - however I feel that if I never do it I'll regret it. Would you recommend the reserves?

    Hi there

The reserves can be really flexible to fit around your circumstances. There are still aspects of training you would need to complete but most of that you can chose from a number of options of when to complete it. If the reserves no longer suit your circumstances you can then leave.

As an aside there is the potential if you were to consider regular service that you could move your family into service quarter on camp thereby maintaining time with your wife.

    Hope this helps

Thank you very much for the reply, Robert. This does help. I would like to consider regular service but I've heard that the time spent away training averages around 8 months out of every year. Please correct me if that's not right as it is the main reason for me looking at the reserves instead.
