I'm 14 and I know I'm far off but is there anything I can do to get me a leg up for training?

    Good evening,

It's great to hear you're enthusiastic about a military career already. However, focus on the next couple of years and make sure you continue to work hard at school, looking to gain qualifications such as English and maths GCSE.

Whilst you can join the British Army without any GCSEs (or equivalent), there are numerous roles that do require you to have qualifications, so the better you do in school, the more opportunities that will be presented to you.

As for the now, you could look at joining the Army Cadets. They are based up and down the country allowing you to join between 12 and 18 years of age. This is a great introduction to the basic military skills you might use in a future career. You learn rifle handling, basic first aid, navigation, field-craft etc, whilst also developing your fitness; all of these skills will be useful and come in handy during basic training.

Other than that, I would suggest you make sure you're fit enough and you also carry out research into what it is you wish to do when you're older.

Hope that helps, and if you've any further questions, give me a shout
