If possible I would like to start a conversation online and seek some guidance. I would go to a local careers office and have a face to face conversation but I am currently working abroad. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Archie
Hi there Archie,
You are in the right place. Do you know if you would like to go down the Officer or Soldier route? Also what sorts of things are you interested in or what skills do you assess that you already have? Finally what level of education did you achieve? These questions will help narrow down what is available to you.
Hi Robert,
Thank you for your reply. I believe I am too old now to begin the officer route. I turn 30 in February and have a young daughter. I currently work outside in a very active and dynamic role often spending time away in different parts of the world. I have had an exciting career and feel I could never adjust to a normal 'office' based job. I enjoy keeping fit and being in the outdoors. Hobbies include climbing/mountaineering/canyoning, paragliding and triathlon. I have also sailed professionally. Skills include ability to manage projects and people and a will power to never give up. I am practical and have the ability to fault find however I am not necessarily 'technically minded'. I have GCSE A-C including Math, English and the sciences. Unfortunately I failed most of my A-levels. I have a number of qualifications related to my current career but they are likely un-relatable. Currently I am living in the south east.
What roles could you recommend?
What currently are the quickest routes into the army?
What is the current average time from initial application to starting training?
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you
Hello,
There are a large variety of roles that require different levels of education, with many requiring no formal qualifications at all.
I recommend trying this quiz to give you some suggestions: MOD Career Quiz

Application times vary widely, this is usually because of the medical part of the application. For me it took a couple of months, but it isn't uncommon for the process to take as long as a year.
