I am keen to join but do you recommend waiting until I am qualified and joining the reserves until then?

Amber M. asked a question to Sam S.

I am a first year uni student, studying adult nursing, I have always wanted to join and know the army train their own nurses do you have any recommendations on the best career path as I know there are loads of options?

    Hi Amber,

If you are already on the pathway to becoming a student nurse then I would suggest that you remain on that route. There are a few options available to you in terms of when to apply. As a student nurse, you could apply for an Army Nursing Bursary worth up to £42,000, £5,000 for each year of training. This would lead you into the role of a Nursing Officer, with a guaranteed place at the end of your studies. The deadline for this is the end of January each year so I would apply sharpish to get the maximum benefit. Alternatively, you could apply during your last year of study, as a soldier or officer nurse, to ensure you can move with limited gaps into the Army at the end of your course.

The Reserves would be a good choice to get you some experience, as would the University Officer Training Corps if you have one.
