    Hi.

I am a Royal Engineer and I managed a troop of Draughtsmen at my previous unit. You can you the Royal Engineers as a Draughtsman. As you are already operating within the role, you will have the minimum requirements.

You might also be able to fast track a lot of your trade training. For e.g. I was a qualified fabricator before I joined. When I finished my Phase 1 (Basic) and Phase 2 (Combat Engineer) Training I went to Chatham for my Trade Training which should have been a year long. Because I was qualified already (you need to make this clear throughout the entire process) I conducted a week long trade assessment and was then removed from the course and sent to my first unit, one year ahead of my peers, which helped massively in terms of getting onto the promotion ladder early.

There was also a financial incentive involved then. This was 2010 so I am not sure if this is still the case but would be worth asking about when you come to applying if that is how you'd like to proceed.

    Hope this helps.

    Warm Regards,
