Sanai R. asked a question to Robert N.

I am 19 years old and dont have the proper school requirements to join as an infantry officer. Can i go through schooling from the army and train for the role I want (Army Infantry Officer) at the same time.

    Hi Sanai,

    The entry requirements are very clear on the Army Jobs website for an Infantry Officer. They are;

    72 UCAS points and 35 ALIS points at GCSE or equivalent qualifications (including a minimum grade C/4, Scottish National 5 Grade C, in English, Maths and a science or foreign language).

    The Army does have Education Centres that you can gain additional qualifications through. For e.g. when I joined the army as a soldier I did not have any GCSE's in Maths and English. To attain the rank of Sergeant I required a C equivalent in both. The Army sent me to an Education Centre where I did a fast track Literacy and Numeracy course and I gained the Level 2 in both which is recognised as C equivalent.

    Have you ever considered joining as an Infantry Soldier? You don't need any GCSE's to become and Infantry Soldier and then you can look down the education route to sweep up your grades and maybe look into applying for Officer from within the Army. It may be something to consider.

    I wish you all the best in whatever it is you do.

    Warm Regards,

    SSgt Rob Needham
