Hi, this is a very common question and worry of younger recruits. During 14wks basic training you would live away, in camp but you would still have the occasional weekend where you get to go home. After basic training, depending on where you are posted to and the feasibility if you aren't working on a weekend or on exercise etc you could go home every night, every weekend. There is a common misconception that if you're in the army you live 'on base' and you can't leave - many people now have 2 lives - their job (in the army) but they have a life outside the wire (so to speak). Many of our soldiers are members of sports teams outside of work, bands, different clubs (from Poker to dancing). Chances are once you have experienced living away from home, earning a good salary you don't end up missing it as much as you think you might as you will have a huge network of support around you. It sounds really warm and fuzzy but the army really is one big family; you have your closest friends that you would literally die for and you have people that you don't much like but have to tolerate! Trust me, during training, you will make friends for life. People that after 2 weeks of knowing them are like people you've known all your life and have helped you through some tough moments that your civilian friends won't even understand. Those people, no matter where you end up in the army will always be there for you. Good luck.
