Hello. In short its been fantastic. I only meant to do the minimum service but I've done over 10 years now and I have no intention to leave any time soon. As a recruiter for the Army I don't need to be a slick salesman or anything special. I will just talk about my experiences on exercise in places like Canada and Oman, as well as teaching as a scuba diving instructor in Gibraltar. I think my experiences in the Army speak for themselves and I didn't appreciate how exciting my career was until I spoke to people thinking of joining themselves. I've said to some candidates that I'm jealous and that I wish I were 10 years younger and joining up so I could do it all again!
Is there any advice you would give as I am looking to join in the near future?
Being in the British Army involves a unique lifestyle that combines discipline, camaraderie, and a strong sense of duty. The initial training is rigorous and demanding, but so much fun too as you make a strong bond and learn so much in such a short time, I always look back at training fondly . The shared experiences, challenges, and teamwork create a sense of family, almost tribal and you always have a strong mutual support around you. The offers and opportunities that are available once you’re at unit to are something I’ve always took with both hands with a wide range of sports, adventure training and military courses available it allows for diverse career paths and skill development. I’ve spent a lot of my career doing sports and the things that I have picked to do. Including trips to Kenya, France, Cyprus and even living in Germany for two years. I’ve loved every second of my career so far. Look at my profile for further information on my experiences.
