Hi John,
What a refreshing question.
Ultimately Basic Training delivers all the requirements to become a fully trained Soldier.
This being said, no one particularly enjoys finding things difficult.
I'd suggest getting eyes on the Army Fit App to gauge what sort of workouts would assist you.
If it were me doing it all over again, I'd focus on becoming a more robust all round individual.
What i mean by that is, i wouldn't solely just run for miles or purely throw weights around a Gym.
Somewhere in between! 1 or 2 weight sessions in addition to a couple of runs a week would put anyone it a fairly respectable place at the very beginning of Training.
Just be mindful of not doing too much too soon, everything in a gradual build up to mitigate potential injuries.
