So this is a very common question, and often there is a misconception that you will never see your friends or family once you're in the military. However, it's quite the contrary!
During Basic/ Ph1 training, you won't be able to see your family, excluding break periods. For the regular soldier 14 week course, you get a long weekend around week 7, which you can spend at home. For junior soldiers, there are further opportunities to visit home as the course is longer (6/12 months depending on job choice/ trade).
However, once training is complete, you will have ample opportunity to see your friends and family. Evenings and weekends tend to be your own, unless you're on exercise, operations or other duties. It's even possible to live with your family near to your military base. I live with my other half in military accommodation, which makes things a lot easier.
