how often will coldstreamers spend in f company and if they are on field duty can they ask to switch over

You will more than likely join 7 Company straight from training and be there for a minimum of 6 months to 1 year before moving to Battalion. There are opportunities to return by choice or potentially staying there. It isn't recommended for long term career progression.
