I'm interested in applying for a role in cyber/IT, since its a versatile role, how often can one travel back home to see family? daily, weekly etc.
Hello. Most of the time you will have your evenings and weekends free to do what you want and you will have the salary to provide transport home. However there will be times when you will have to work longer hours or be deployed overseas where this isn't possible. You will not be deployed indefinitely and in my experience I was only away for a few weeks at a time. You will also be able to use your leave allowance and can do what you want in that time.
As you are interested in cyber and IT i would recommend looking further at the Intelligence Corps or the Royal Corps of Signals because both have a variety of job roles and specialisms that you would find interesting.
What’s the process like for doing part time/reserve?
You can make an application to the reserves in the same way you can to the regular army but your initial training will be done in increments, based on your availability and running courses throughout the year. You will also be limited in your choice of job role given the reserve units in your area. The reserves can be a great way to access a lot of the benefits the army offers without having to commit full time and all the while getting paid for your time.
