This will all depend on what unit you are a part of and what their capabilities are. So this may vary places such as a medical regiment or a field hospital usually have quite a few medics that they tend to ask who wants to go so works on more of a voluntary basis. However there are also requirements for you to go away as a unit or if you meet the specific job requirements for the task being asked.
In short if you want to go away you'll have plenty of opportunities to do so if not then there will still be a minimum requirement that you will have to meet.
