Hi there,
Thanks for your question.
The Ministry of Defence takes the health of its service, and ex-service personnel very seriously. It is currently funding research into PTSD being carried out by King’s College London. The last study suggested that the rate of current and ex-serving military personnel with PTSD was around 6%. The rate of PTSD among the civilian population is about 4%, so although military service may increase the chances of being effected by PTSD, it is not hugely different from the chances of being effected as a civilian.
Is this something which you are concerned about and would influence your decision to join the military?
