The minimum service is 4 years. This includes training and the final year (if you sign off at your 3 year post).

Your apprenticeship starts at trade training. The length of that apprenticeship will depend on the subject its covers. for example medical and engineering apprenticeship will be longer than stores and logistical apprenticeships.

The key point is that you will be payed a full salary during your apprenticeship. Other apprenticeships normally pay a lower salary as the individuals are not fully trained.

The only exemption to the above is for professional qualifications of which you need can be 6-7 years after basic training as you will do your degree for 3 years and have a 3/4 year return of service but most apprenticeships are as above a total of 4 years with you handing in your notice at 3.
