How easy is it to make friends as a cyber engineer?

I have always been reserved and I believe joining the army will help me gain some confidence. Will we hang out with people who have different roles than us? I have read stories about how people make good friends in the army and socialize a lot and was wondering if that is the reality?

The Army will absolutely improve your confidence and you will live and work with a wide variety of diverse people from all walks of life and countries. It is almost impossible to not make very good friends or at least acquaintances and friends.

The social life is what you make of it and need to get involved in the different aspects of the job, be it going out, sport or hobbies. There is something for everyone either in a military role or civvie aspect.

Hi, great question. When you join the army, as Sarah said, you meet people from all walks of life and everyone is on the same journey. You will be closer to people you join the army with in a really short space of time than people you may have known all your life because of the crazy shared experiences you will share. I joined the army 17years ago and some of my closest friends are the girls i joined the army with. Even if i don't see them for years when we get together it's like we saw each other yesterday and we all know that no matter what we would drop anything for each other if we have to.
Again, i echo Sarah, make the most of all the opportunities you get. There might be some things that you try and really hate but others might surprise you. You tend to make quick friends as you move around the army into different jobs or doing sport with a different set of people but i think the army is one of these jobs where we all have a massively shared experience of training and we all have a similar mindset (it's where the term 'squaddy humour' comes from!) so can laugh at the same sort of things. You will definitely gain in confidence - that's what basic training will do, enjoy it - some bits will be rubbish but it's the people you befriend who will get you through the harder times. Good luck.
