Have you tried the '100% Army Fit' app? You can download it really easily and it will help you stay on top of your fitness.
The trick is not trying to achieve everything at once. Break your large goals into smaller ones and they are easier to follow.
If you want to get fit for joining the Army you will need to complete a 2km timed run. So your first goal could be to achieve a really good 1km run time and then build towards a good 2km time. Same deal with the strength exercises; start at an achievable level and build up in small steps.
