I’m currently 15 years old and interested in becoming an army photographer. Im not sure wether I should go to college and do photography for 2 years or do photography for 1 year and proceed to the Army Foundation College in Harrogate.
Unfortunately you can't join the Army directly as a photographer but have to get into the trade - RLC Photographer. You can retrade (to be a photographer) later within the RLC or you can change capbadge. You do also have to reach the minimum rank of LCpl with 2 recommendations to Cpl. Joining AFC Harrogate would enable you to reach LCpl faster. You could look at doing photography courses within the army if you wanted to (you get Standard learning Credits every year to enable you to do a college or online course etc) and you can practice as everyone wants decent photos of people doing their jobs and you would be snapped up (excuse the pun!) - it would also help you during the transfer as you will need to prove your photography skills. I hope that helps.
