Hi Daniel,
The best thing to do is to contact the Regimental association of what ever Regiment they served with, if you have their full name, rank and service number that will really help too.
You can also check on the Forces War Record website with just their name; https://www.forces-war-records.co.uk/namesearch/?Surname=Palastanga&RecordType=Ww2&RecordDateStartYear=1939&RecordDateEndYear=1945&Step=1&ReceivedGallantryAward=False
Good luck.
Katie
Daniel, A lot will depend on how much information you have on this family member. The following link contains good information on how to get started; http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/familyhistory/get_started/archives_01.shtml
Further to this, next of kin or nominated eldest living blood relative can apply for service records from; https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records
There are several other options available to assist. A quick search of google will give you a good starting point.
