i believe you may have answered your own question. If you are overweight I'd recommend going into a calorie deficit alongside your physical preparation. For the Deficit I'd recommend Team RH they are incredible at getting you to be accountable and say it how it is whilst getting results. Physical preparation I'd recommend downloading the Army fit app.
Your 2km/blip test score will also impact the jobs you can apply for. If you want to join the para's you will need to score the highest possibly score, I'm not sure about the 2km run, but the blip test is lvl 11.
Should you fail to meet the job standard, you can change job or come back at a later date when you have improved.
