I am planning to study nursing and would love to join the reserves but because of placements, I will be more pressed for time for a part time job. Were you able to balance them?
Hello. Firstly I'm not a nurse. However, I have coincidentally just spoken to someone who is, and who was in a similar position to you and I'm told it would be extremely difficult if not impossible, to balance a nursing degree, the reserves and a part time job. My first though as an army recruiter was that actually you could get what you want from these three things by joining the army as a nurse. I'll explain further.
If you join the army as a regular unqualified nurse the army pay for you to do a nursing degree. That's a win in itself but you will have to do Basic Training first, before the army sends you to university for three years. This I think would work to your advantage if you're considering the reserves because the training you would do in the reserves is everything that is covered in regular basic training. Further more, after Basic Training as a trained soldier, you would be paid a salary starting salary of £26,334. So hopefully you can understand that this may be a great opportunity to get what you want without having to juggle education, the reserves and work.
If you have any other question the please let me know. Thanks.
