Hi Newlyn,
Thanks for your question, it’s great to hear that you’re considering a career in the Royal Artillery.
29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery is a fantastic regiment with a reputation for being utterly professional, welcoming, and knowing how to have a lot of fun!
They operate as part of 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines and are held at Very High Readiness in support of the Army. They specialise in amphibious operations, mountain, desert, jungle and arctic warfare.
The Regiment is made up of three equipment batterys which operate the L118 105mm Light Gun, a Headquarters battery, a Naval Gunfire Support Forward Observation battery and an attached Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers workshop.
The Regiment is based at The Royal Citadel in Plymouth houses 8 (Alma) Commando Battery RA, 23 (Gibraltar) Commando HQ Battery RA, 79 (Kirkee) Commando Battery RA and 7 (Sphinx) Commando Battery RA, whilst 148 (Meiktila) Commando Forward Observation Battery RA is based at RM Poole.
To keep up to date with what the Regiment is up to I would recommend following their Facebook page and Twitter account;
