Connor T. Army Air Corps Cet Team.

    Hello,

There are 2 entry routes for pilots in the Army.

Soldier route- Once serving in a job role you can apply from anywhere in the Army when you get your first recommendation for promotion, this usually takes around 2-3 years. Once you apply you will have to pass an aptitude test, medical tests, flight grading, leadership board and interview board. You will need to have done this by your 28th birthday.

Officer route- This route is the only direct route to pilot, however it is extremely competitive. This route you will need to get selected for the Army Air Corps while training at Sandhurst, you will be required to pass the same testing as above. By your 28th birthday as above.

Another option however is to join the Army Air Corps as a soldier, once you`ve been recommended for your first promotion you can apply to become a Rear Crewman (door gunner). While this role is not as a pilot, you still get to fly. This role is only open to Army Air Corps soldiers, it requires you to pass an aptitude test and medical only. It`s important to note that this option is good if you don`t reach the required score for pilot on aptitude as the score for rear crew is slightly lower.

Hope this helps, you can change your job choice before joining and it is possible to transfer once in. Applying for pilot however can be done from anywhere in the Army and doesn`t require you to transfer until you pass and are accepted.
