Sophie N. asked a question to Kelly B.
I am planning on going to uni but want to push myself aswell
Hi Sophie,
Let me provide my thoughts before Kelly also can.
This all depends firstly on whether you want to be a soldier or an officer. To be an officer, you require UCAS points of 72 at A or T-Level prior to undertaking the selection process. You can do this without university or after university - if you decide on this route you can receive financial support throughout university with a guaranteed place at the end of your course. More details on this can be found here - https://jobs.army.mod.uk/regular-army/what-you-get/bursaries-scholarships/.
If it is a soldier career you choose then we have a huge selection which will push you and enable you to gain new skills, experience and confidence along the way. Our soldier intakes are scheduled all year round and I would suggest beginning your application within your final year of secondary school or university to ensure it can be all scheduled in for you to join us on completion. There are elements such as the medical review which can take a little longer and we can always schedule your events and intake around when you can start.
thank you what are all the differences between soldier and officer
To sum it up in a short answer, our soldiers are our specialists in their trade and equipment whereas an officer is the leader and manager of the team. Officers will receive the missions and tasks from the more senior officers and then convert it into a plan to achieve them. The soldiers will use their specialism to achieve this mission.
I also saw that i can start training at 16 but on your website I can only be a reserve at 18
Yes you can start as a regular soldier at the age of 16 by attending the Army Foundation College at Harrogate. Army reserve soldiers must be 18 years old.
