    Hi there,

The Medical Bursary is open to candidates who will graduate with an Army-endorsed medical degree and intend to join the Royal Army Medical Corps for a minimum period of 4 years as a commissioned Medical Officer. Paid in annual instalments of £10,000 during your final three years of university then a lump sum of £45,000 on successful completion of Officer training. You will also be paid an Army salary during your two years of foundation. Even though you are in year three of a medical degree, applying now will just mean you get less money but still have the guaranteed spot post training.

In order to apply it would through our Army Jobs website initially and then you would be passed to our Professionally Qualified Officer team. As a prospective Army Doctor, you will conduct an Officer Familiarisation visit to the Army Medical Services followed by the Army Officer Selection Board and your Doctor specific selection board. If successful for the Bursary you would then remain at university whilst in receipt of your bursary and then do FY1 and 2 in on of our regional defence medical units embedded in the NHS. You can also apply without the Bursary and the process is very similar.

For your FY years you will get a choice out of the five but with limited spaces in each there are no guarantees of course. Army Doctors after FY years conduct two to three year postings like most of us and therefore you are based in one place for that time. You will still deploy around the UK and overseas depending on commitments but your home location stays the same during that time. You do get a choice in where you go and select from a list of available jobs as to what your preference is - the Army then matches this with where they need you to select your job from your preferences.
