Satilian A. asked a question to Shaun M.
I want to do boxing and many other sports in the army like motorcross and i also after a armourer i want to become a weapons engineer how can i do that. ?
Hi Satilian,
As an Armourer you will have plenty of opportunity to do sports all you have to do is show interest in certain sports when you get to your phase 2 training (ITT). At MOD Lyneham (REME ITT) they have countless sports and more than enough opportunity to try sports you are interested in or even sports you have never thought have trying.
As to "Weapons Engineer" an armourer in the REME is a weapons engineer.
Hope this helps.
A :)
Thank you for your question Satilian!
Yes, the army have brilliant teams in both they sports. The British Army Motocross Team (AMCA) and The British Army Boxing Team (ABT) providing an amazing opportunity for service personnel to engage in various events and championships both within the military community and in civilian competitions throughout the year.
As you can see from my profile, I have been involved in Boxing within the Army my whole career, in fact I have just returned to the office as the season has just finished after coaching another winning team in AFC Pirbright. So, let me give you some more detail on Boxing:
Due to your age range, you will join the Army Foundation College (AFC) Harrogate this is a training establishment for, specifically, candidates that are at least 16 years old and under 17 years and 6 months on the day of enlistment. This is a brilliant, Junior Entry pathway, where you receive both military training, education, AND SPORTS.
You can participate in boxing at AFC Harrogate. The college supports a range of sports and physical activities, that recruits can do routinely. Engaging in boxing at AFC Harrogate offers recruits the opportunity to even compete in a inter unit competition towards the end of their time there. The college encourages participation in sports as part of its overall emphasis on physical training and character development.
As a future target to you to The British Army boxing team is also typically composed of full-time boxers. These soldiers balance their primary military duties with their involvement in boxing and are based in Aldershot full time training two/ three times a day and travel all over with a great gym and coaches. At a lower entry level though and most soldiers start of their military boxing career before getting to the ABT the Army provides support and opportunities for soldiers to develop their boxing skills, including access to training facilities, coaching, and competition at all levels, from inter-unit to individual competitions annually as well as level 1 coaching courses available to all ranks.
Hope This helps
