having continuous pain and discomfort in neck and shoulders.

Hi there, I am currently waiting for a assessment centre date, but I am concerned with the pain and discomfort in my neck and shoulders. I have not had an injury, the pain has come from no where and is on going. I am worried to go to the doctors as I know my medical history and information will be given at my assessment date. I am putting off going to the doctors for my neck as I am worried it will effect my chances of getting into the army when I am at the assessment centre. I was hoping you could give me any kind of information or reassurance possibly. I would appreciate your honesty, many thanks.

    Hi there,

    Thanks for your question.

Your health and wellbeing is the most important thing and so I would strongly recommend that you visit your GP. It is best that you get checked out first before attending your assessment as you do not want to cause yourself any further discomfort, or impact your chances of passing any physical tests.

Hopefully your GP will be able to work with you to resolve the issue and you can attend an assessment as soon as you are back to full health. If you don’t seek medical advice it may cause longer term damage, or prevent you giving your best performance on your assessment.

Having sought medical advice and received treatment for normal medical issues should not impact your eligibility to join the army.

Good luck and I hope it is nothing serious.

    Katie
