I've been in Combat zones in Afghanistan and been involved in Firefights. So perhaps you could say that to a degree.

As for Safety, i personally see no safer Career. Surrounded by like minded people and all part of one of the best trained Armies in the world.

I have to agree with Michael. There are parts of the job that are dangerous, that's why the armed forces exist, but actually, the risk to individuals is very low. The most dangerous jobs in the UK are in construction, manufacturing, fishing and farming. The big difference is that casualties in the military always make the news, so it sometimes seems to be a dangerous form of employment.

The other half of the equation is how good the Army is at looking after its people if they do become injured. Not only do we receive excellent training and protective equipment when we are doing dangerous tasks, we have our own welfare services, doctors, dentists, physios etc and you won't receive a pay cut during your recovery like you will in some jobs. So overall, I'd say the support system is excellent if you do find yourself needing help with recovery.
