Hello, I am thinking about joining the Guards and would like to know how many hours do Guards recruits train every day/week for drill/ceremonial in basic training in comparison to ordinary line infantry recruits?
Thanks for your question.
Working hours at ITC Catterick are long, as expected with any training.
There are a lot of skills and information you are required to learn in order to transition from a civilian to not only as a soldier but an infantry soldier.
You can be expected to be up at 6am and getting to bed around 10pm providing your admin is done. This will be the same across ITC.
With regards to drill and ceremonial, why wouldn’t you want to spend a little extra time perfecting the skill or your kit to the highest standard? Doing your drill kit to the highest standard and perfecting every drill movement sets you in the mindset that every task you carry out should be done to the highest standard possible.
A smart soldier is a thinking soldier
I hope this answers your question
