I am a South African citizen and I am currently in my last year of my undergraduate degree. I am interested in all fields and therefore would like to know where the demand is the highest.
Hello, now is the right climate to join the British Army as we have spaces in a lot of job roles. In particular infantry solider and Royal Armoured Corps (tank) Crewman are offering a one-thousand pound bonus if you join and complete training. Likewise Chef and Petroleum Operator are in demand and offer six and a half thousand pounds if you complete training. This is in addition to pay and other benefits. For more information you could try phoning a careers centre. Thanks, and if you have any other questions let me know.
What officer roles Would you recommend and is there a direct entry for the officer roles?
Hello, yes there Direct Entry officer available. However when you join as a officer you won't immediately choose a job role like you would with a regular solider application. Its is worth mentioning that you can put in for a officer application and an regular solider application at the same time. Thanks.
Hi there,
Thanks so much for your question. Deegan is correct in that now, is a great time to consider joining the British Army!
For direct entry officer applications, as Deegan has stated, you do not need to decide on your role before you start training. That said, it is a good idea to have explored all the options before you commence your training at the Royal military Academy Sandhurst. I would advise having a look on the British Army website at the Role finder page. This should give you some great inspiration for deciding which role will be best for you, it will also tell you all the prerequisites and qualifications that you require for each role.
Once you have had look, if you have any further questions about any of the specific roles, please do come back to us.
Katie
when does the officer training start in 2025 and how long beforehand should I apply?
Apply as soon as you can. The application process could take a long time, particularly if there are medical issues which need looking into further. Even if you're complete the application process quickly, I believe you can defer your entry a little bit.
There are three intakes a year, January, May, and September. But as Charlie says, the application process can take some time.
The best thing to do is express interest now so that you can get your Army Officer Selection Board (AOSB) Briefing booked in and completed. If you are successful you will be invited back to complete the AOSB Main Board. If you are successful at this, then you will be offered a start date at Sandhurst, but you are able to defer this if it does not suit your desired timelines.
More information on the AOSB and how to prepare can be found on the Armys website:

I applied back in December through to January but was rejected to try again in 2025 how would i be able to know the reason for the rejection and when soon could re-apply.
Hi again, could you confirm which stage of the application process you have completed, and if this was for a soldier or officer entry?
We can’t advise on individual cases but we may be able to offer some general insight on eligibility.
Good day.
I would like to know that if you were rejected for a soldier role and officer role due to being a commonwealth citizen, directly after submitting the application and the medical questionnaire, when can you re-apply for a role if space opens up for commonwealth citizens?
would you please be so kind as to assist me with this matter.
Hi there,
Yes - you can reapply as soon as the British Army re-opens applications to commonwealth citizens.
