I have a Lvl 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management and lots of experience with large, and small dogs alot of which are difficult to deal with and are often dogs other kennels turn away due to their breed or difficult behaviour. Will this help me get into the dog handling role at all and if so- What steps would I need to take and how long would it take?
Hello! Amazing question!
Prior experience with handling dogs with some behaviour issues could benefit you in going into being a Dog Handler, however this would be down to the Army Medical Service Board when you go for interview into the RAVC. As long as you do your research into the RAVC - Dog Handler role and the dogs they work with.
You got the experience with kennel routes and if they are injured what basic medical needs they have and forms of training them. It will aid you within the recruitment process. But this role is very popular and the waiting list can be long. My best advise is to have an open mind and have back up trades in mind.
I hope this helps!
