Do you have to pass the fitness standards before you go to the assessment centre or do you get trained up to pass them?

You will be required to pass fitness assessments at the Assessment Centre. The requirements for this can be found at: https://apply.army.mod.uk/how-to-join/can-i-join/fitness/physical-entry-standards
This is just the basic level of fitness to join. Once you are in the army you are trained up from this level and it is a gentle build up so as not to cause injury. The fitter you are before joining, the easier everything else will be during training. Once you are in the army there are annual fitness tests that you will have to pass (but there is lots of fitness opportunites during the normal week to keep your fitness up).
