Hi there,
Thank you for your question.
To join as a soldier you do not need any formal qualifications.
You'll start with your initial military training which will teach you how to be a soldier - this will cover everything from fieldcraft to how to handle a rifle. If you join as a Junior Soldier (under 17 years 5 months), you’ll do a 23-week basic military training course at Harrogate. If you join as a Regular Soldier (over 17 years 1 month), you’ll do the regular 14-week adult basic training.
Then it’s off to Larkhill for 15 weeks to train as a Gunner. You do military training, sports and Adventurous Training. You also learn to drive a car and trailer and do a cross country driving course in a Land Rover.
After this, you either join 32 Regiment Royal Artillery (who operate Mini Uncrewed Aerial Systems) or 47 Regiment Royal Artillery (who operate Tactical Uncrewed Aerial Systems) both of which are based in Larkhill. At this point, you learn to control a drone (unmanned aircraft) to help find and destroy the enemy.
I hope this answers your question but if you want to know anything more please come back to me.
Katie
