Great question, and in short yes. When you make your initial application, you are applying for a specific role/ job within the British Army, and there are many to choose from. For example, you might apply for 'Groundcrew Specialist' as part of the Army Air Corps. Or you might apply as 'Tank Crew' which forms part of the Royal Armoured Corps.

Once you have applied, you will be given further advice on what roles are available to you and guidance on taking your application further. There might be a certain role that is very popular and has a very long wait time before you can begin training, so you might wish to choose a different job. It might also become apparent that your interests lay in a different role to one you initially applied for. My advice is to do as much research as you can on the different roles available. There is also a section of the website above (How to Join) which explains the process.

You will also complete a test, known as the ACT (Army Cognitive Test) during your selection process, which will determine your ability to perform a certain role. For example, if you were to join the Royal Military Police, or a role with the Intelligence Corps, these will demand a higher score. Technical trades such as Aviation Technician (REME) or Geographic Technician (Royal Engineers) will require an additional test known as the TST (Technical Selection Test), which is slightly more numerical/ mathematics based.
