Mechanics can be at times required to 'repair forward' by carrying out quick fixes on battle winning equipment in order to allow the soldiers to continue the mission/task. Recovery Mechanics along with mechanics and other REME tradesmen and woman are attached to forward fighting troops as part of an Equipment Support team known as a 'fitter section'. You should expect to be called upon as a soldier first, tradesmen second. Having the mind set of someone who can think on their feet/outside of the box, will stand you in good stead for any role in the military and be able to work in a changing and some times challenging environments. A basic level of physical fitness is essential and having the mental agility to problem solve/fault find is an excellent characteristic of a REME tradesperson.
