    Hi there,

Short answer, yes. Whilst there are certain roles where you are unlikely to use your weapon in combat, you will be taught how to operate a weapon during your basic (phase 1) training, regardless of role. You will also be expected to maintain your knowledge and understanding of weapon systems through your career, through conducting weapon handling tests for example. We are all soldiers first and foremost so need to be adept in weaponry.

There are certain roles within the army where you will be able to learn about more complex weapon systems. For example, in the Army Air Corps as a Groundcrew Specialist, you will become familiarised with aircraft ammunition and upload these to the aircraft, including hellfire missiles or the 30mm Apache gun.

    Hope that helps
