Everyone in the British Army has to undergo initial training and is a soldier first before their trade, so before going anywhere near a vehicle a driver would have to pass 14 weeks of training as a soldier which includes weapon handling and shooting among many other things.
Further to this drivers apply their trade tactically in the field on exercise and operations, which does involve the carrying of firearms.
